Copyright and Takedown Requests
Everything you read on Rolltop Sound — the reviews, the guides, the odd late-night paragraph about a reverb pedal that finally made sense — is written by us and belongs to us. We’re a small team, and the words here come out of hours in a little room with a guitar on a stand and a notebook that’s seen better days. We’d rather people ask than assume.
If You Want to Use Something
Ask first. Short quotations with a clear link back are usually fine, and we tend to say yes when the request is honest. Lifting whole pieces or feeding our writing into something that republishes it is another matter. Start at our contact page and tell us what you have in mind.
If Your Work Appears Here Without Permission
It shouldn’t happen, but mistakes are real — perhaps a photo credit got lost, or a lyric was quoted longer than it should have been. If you hold the rights and something on a specific page of ours is yours, tell us which URL is involved. We need the exact address of the page, not the whole site, so we can find the thing you’re pointing at.
What a Notice Needs
For us to act, your message should include: the URL where the material sits; a description of the work you own; evidence that you own it — or that you’re authorised to speak for the owner; your own contact details; and a line confirming you believe the use isn’t permitted and that the information you’ve given is accurate. Keep it plain. A few honest sentences beat a wall of boilerplate.
What Happens Next
We read these quickly. When a notice is valid and specific, we take the material down as soon as we reasonably can — often the same day, because it’s a small room and there’s no committee. If the claim looks mistaken, we’ll say so and explain why rather than ignore you. Either way, you’ll hear back from a person, not an autoresponder.
